What is a QEEG/Brainmap ?

QEEG = Quantitative EEG (Electroencephalogram).
Brain-wave data: electrical activity of neurons, collected by multiple sensors gently applied to the scalp.
Data Analysis:  Brainwave activity from various regions of the brain are measured, and quantified by computer models
Mapping: EEG data is used to create detailed and revealing color-coded maps, (like a weather map) to indicate where the activity is out of balance, based on models of normal/healthy brain activity.
Patterns of brainwave activity can be used to assess overall cognitive function, impulsivity, anxiety, mood disorders, etc.
Diagnosis: This tool can be used in differential diagnosis of many neurological symptoms. There are signature brainwave and inter-brain communication patterns associated with specific mental-emotional and neurological conditions.

QEEG as a tool for healing: Neural pathways associated abnormal patterns can be trained and corrected using neurofeedback protocols. The brain can change and heal itself.

What is Neurofeedback?

How does it work?

Brain Maps  are used to choose which areas of the brain, and the patterns of inter- brain communication,  are most indicated for Neurofeedback training.

EEG Sensors are gently and strategically placed on the scalp in those locations selected for training.

Real-time brainwave data from sensors is delivered to the neurofeedback device.

Computers analyze and process the data
and set achievement thresholds.

Audio-visual images respond to subtle changes in the brainwave pattern.

Feedback from nerve activity helps the brain learn to turn on the desired entertainment switches. With practice this learning establishes new and resourceful neural pathways in the brain.

Neurofeedback is effective:

Studies have confirmed up to 90% success in treating many brain and neurological conditions. NF protocols are known to be effective in relieving symptoms in conditions such as:

  • ADD/ADHD,

  • Autism,

  • Mood,

  • Anxiety,

  • Insomnia,

  • Seizures,

  • Improve IQ and focus,

  • Improve mental/emotional
    and behavioral health without drugs

What to Expect:

Applying sensors.
Typically, four sensors are painlessly applied to the scalp with gel in carefully selected areas that require training

Entertaining Videos.
The patient will typically select an enjoyable video to watch during a training session.

Feedback:
An ON/OFF a dimmer switch is triggered in response to neural activity in the area of the sensors.

Training:
Simply watching a video that dims or brightens in response to undesirable/desirable brainwave patterns, the brain quickly learns to develop new and more functional improved neural pathways.
Training sessions 15 minutes each.
2-3 times per week, or every other day.

Research suggests a success rates as high as 90% in indicated cases.

Long term benefits are typically seen in as few as 15-20 treatment sessions.
Research suggests a success rate as high as 90% in indicated cases.

John Dye, ND
Naturopathic Physician and
mind-body medicine practitioner

  • 40+ years clinical experience.

  • Expert in Mind-Body Healing

  • Prof. Emeritus at SCNM,

  • Dept. Chair-Mind-Body Medicine,

  • Neurofeedback co-instructor x 15 years

  • EEG technician
Note: Dr Dr will perform the EEG data collection and send to Dr Coben for full  QEEG report.

Background:
Dr Dye's background in mental health began in his undergraduate studies at Whittier College ('74) , where he obtained a BA in Psychobiology. In order to fill out this emerging program of study he initiated several independent-study courses, including one on biofeedback. Biofeedback was only an emerging field at that time and his early training put him n contact with many pioneers in neurofeedback.

After becoming a naturopathic physician Dr Dye continued to pursue training and clinical experience in the field of mind-body healing, incorporating a wide rage of psychotherapeutics into the naturopathic approach to mental health.

In 1996 Dr Dye became Dept. Chair of Mind-Body Medicine at SCNM, in Tempe, AZ.  In this role he introduced naturopathic medical students, and the wider profession, to the role of neurofeedback in mental health. He also taught courses in "naturopathic treatments for mental illness" where he was able to share his many years of experience using naturopathic protocols.

By combining the best of naturopathic approaches, such as medicinal herbs and nutraceuticals, with neurofeebdack, Dr Dye has been able to offer new hope for many patients with treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions.

Dr Dye has teamed up with a renowned QEEG and neurofeedback expert, Dr Robert Coben,  to offer an affordable option to both brain-maps and neurofeedback therapy.  See Dr Coben's panel for more information about how we integrate his protocols and home-based neurofeedback training programs.

  • Cutting-edge/individualized neurofeedback protocols

  • oversight and supervision by top experts

  • now available in the convenience of your own home

  • Rent/purchase equipment = cost savings

  • Integrating complementary naturopathic medicine protocols for optimal results

  • Director and Chief Neuropsychologist of Neuro-Rehabilitation and Neuropsychological Services at Integrated Neuroscience Services in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

  • Affiliated NeuroSciences researcher of New York University Medical Center.

  • associate editor for the Journal of Neurotherapy

  • Past president of the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research

  • Past President of the International Board of Quantitative Electrophysiology.

Dr Coben collaborates with Dr Dye to provide integrated Functional Brain Analysis and neurofeedback support:
Dr Coben explains his services in this video:
Integrated Neurosciences Services

Dr Coben is widely recognized as a leading expert in the field of neurofeedback. He is a popular speaker at neurotherapy conferences where is is especially known for sharing his exciting research on his specific and highly-effective Coherence-Training protocols.

Dr. Coben has developed a method of interpreting brain 'connectivity' into the QEEG report. This information directly applies to learning and processing issues. He provides this specialized mapping service to Dr Dye's patients.

Most neurofeedback protocols involve simple technology for inhibiting. or rewarding, specific frequencies of brainwave activity at specific sites.  Dr Coben's protocols also address the issues of poor brain connectivity. His QEEG brain maps identify areas of the brain that are not properly communicating with other areas. These faulty brain connectivity pathways explain many of the symptoms that are targets of neurotherapy.

By incorporating neurofeedback protocols that reward improved connectivity, called 'coherence' training, we greatly improve neurofeedback outcomes.

Dr Dye has enlisted Dr Coben as a team-player in his treatment plans for patients with chronic brain and neuropsych issues. Besides providing a QEEG report based on the EEG data submitted by Dr Dye,  Dr Coben will suggest a treatment protocol to address the various finding on the QEEG map and provide neurofeedback therapy guidance.

Dr Coben's QEEG brain map service includes supervised neurofeedback training at home. Other than the cost of rental or purchase of the neurofeedback device, there is no additional fee for Dr Coben's coaching and oversight for neurofeedback conducted at home.
